Using his strengths to work on his weaknesses!

At OTG, we love to see what Kevin can do with a barbell. The man’s got strength from his background in sports and weight training, and he’s charging after his weaknesses every time his in class. Kev brings great energy to class and regardless of how tough the workout, he’s got a smile on his face. Keep working on that cardio, Kev, and congrats!!!

Q: How does it feel to be the October 2021 OTG Member of the Month?
A: It feels great that my hard work has been noticed and I am honored to be the member of the month.
Q: How old are you?
A: 31
Q: What do you do for a living?
A: Investment Research
Q: What was your athletic background before CrossFit?
A: Grew up playing baseball, a couple years of football in highschool, and years of weightlifting.
Q: How has training this way changed your life?
A: It feels really good to get the heart rate going. I have always enjoyed weightlifting but hated cardio. CrossFit has been able to make the cardio aspect enjoyable.
Q: How long have you been CrossFitting?
A: 1 Year.
Q: What's your favorite cheat meal?
A: Pizza and beer
Q: What are your favorite movements/workouts?
A: Any of the olympic style lifts, overhead presses, all the heavy stuff really.
Q: What are your least favorite movements/workouts?
A: Burpees, Burpees, and more Burpees. Oh and workouts that consist of a lot of running.
Q: If you could make up your own workout that fits your strengths, what would it be and what would you call it? (AMRAP? RDS for time? Movements?)
A: Pick Things Up & Put Them Down AMRAP - 20 mins 12 Overhead Squats 12 Bag toss over shoulder 12 Hang Cleans 15 Sit Ups 1:00 Rest
Q: What was one goal when you first started at OTG? Have you progressed toward that goal?
A: Overall better health and cardio endurance. Cardio is still a struggle but definitely better than where I was a year ago and trending in the right direction.
Q: What is the biggest accomplishment you’ve had in the gym so far?
A: Conquering my first bar muscle up. Now I need to string a few together. I have really improved on the gymnastics movements, which I had no experience prior to CrossFit.
Q: What is it that you like most about CrossFit OTG?
A: The teamlike atmosphere. The coaches and members are all supportive, friendly, and competitive. It makes it easy to come in each day and work to get better when you have the right people around you.
Q: What would you say to someone who is on the fence about trying OTG?
A: Arnold Schwarzenegger said it best, "You can't climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets."
